River Valley Community Church

Statement of Faith

The Statement of Faith by which the Church exists as a distinct body, and which every member accepts, is as follows:

We profess our decided attachment to that system of the Christian religion which is designated EVANGELICAL.

I. WE BELIEVE in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as inspired of God, inerrant in the original writings, and of supreme and final authority in faith and life

II. WE BELIEVE that there is one and but one living and true God, subsisting in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, equal in power and glory; that this triune God created all, upholds all, and governs all.

III. WE BELIEVE that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the Savior of the World and that through His life, death, and resurrection, an atonement was made for sin, and redemption was provided for all mankind.

IV. WE BELIEVE that repentance for sin and the acceptance of Jesus Christ as a personal Savior is the one and only way whereby sinful man can inherit eternal life.

V.  WE BELIEVE in the bodily resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, His bodily ascension into Heaven, and His present ministry as High Priest and Advocate for us.

VI.    WE BELIEVE the Holy Spirit exists eternally with the Father and the Son; His ministry is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ.  During this present age He convicts men (John 16:8), regenerates the believing sinner (Titus 3:5), places believers into the body of Christ by His baptism (1 Corinthians 12:13), and indwells (1 Corinthians 6:19), and seals (Ephesians 4:30), and fills (Ephesians 5:18), every believer.  He guides (Romans 8:14), instructs (John 16:12-15), and empowers the believer for godly living and service.

VII. WE BELIEVE that the first man, Adam, created in the image of God, sinned.  Man thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death, which is separation from God. Consequently, all human beings are born with the sinful nature.

VIII.   WE BELIEVE that believers in Christ are sanctified and set apart unto God for His service:

A.      At the moment a person trusts Christ for salvation.

B.      Daily by the reading of the Word and by the teaching of the Holy Spirit.

C.      Ultimately when the believer comes into the actual presence of the Lord.

IX.     WE BELIEVE in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ, which is His Body, the Church.

X. WE BELIEVE in what is termed Apostles’ Creed” as embodying the fundamental facts of the Christian faith.

Church Covenant

As Covenant Partners of River Valley Community Church, we affirm the Statement of Faith as included in our Constitution and commit ourselves to these fundamental practices that Christ has commended in His Word.

We Confess Christ’s Authority: We repent of our sin and make an authentic profession of Christ as Savior and follow Him as Lord.

We Commit Ourselves to godliness: We seek, with God’s help, to live carefully in the world, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts remembering that Christ has saved us to live a new and holy life.

We Worship God: We gladly participate when the community regularly gathers to worship and we commit ourselves to personal devotions.

We Connect in Community: We connect ourselves to some regular experience of Christian community to support one another in matters of life and faith through personal sharing, prayer and accountability.

We Steward God’s Gifts: We contribute cheerfully and regularly of our finances to the support of River Valley Community Church, it’s expenses, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel through all nations. We serve at River Valley Community Church using the gifts and talents granted to us by the Holy Spirit to strengthen and expand its ministries.

We Go into the World to Share the Gospel and Make Disciples:

We seek the salvation of our family, friends and neighbors. We witness and plant seeds whenever and wherever God places us to give witness to God’s salvation and the teachings of Jesus Christ through our lives, our actions and our words. We commit ourselves to acts of love and service to those in need in our community and the world.

We Live out the Mission: We, when we move from this place, as soon as possible, unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word.
